Description
This auction is for a 1964 Triple TM Boxed Stamped Soldier in excellent condition. This piece was unearthed at a flea market in the Bronx, N.Y., in the mid 1990s and I have had it in my collection since 1996. It is the only complete original boxed set I have ever come across with a stamped figure. Not only is it a stamped figure but it is wearing first issue rubber boots and Okinowa tagged fatigues. This is not something pieced together and you will note the condition of the figure and accessories are all consistent and the box is date stamped. I am limited to 12 photos in the listing but have many detailed photos. If you are serious about the piece just email me with a screen name and I will email you the additional photos. Here are complete descriptions of each component. Since grading is subjective I an going to offer a range for condition depending on if you are a liberal of conservative grader. BOX: The box is a Triple TM Solider box in C8-8.5 condition. It has minor corner damage and edge wear and a small litho pull near the “E” of JOE. Please look at the photos. The best part about the box is the ink stamped date of 10/8/64 in the box bottom. That would make this figure part of the original test run, which was done in a number of cities prior to the delivery of the first production run for Christmas 1964, or it was in that first production run that went out for delivery for Christmas of 1964. PAPER: All of the original paper is intact and first issue including rank and insignia decal sheets, the hand typed boot instruction, early club membership application and brochure and TM-TM Army Field Manual. All are in excellent condition. CLOTHING: The uniform is the nicest OKINOWA tagged uniform I have ever seen. If not for the white spot on the right leg I would rate them a C8.5-9. Please look at the photos. Due to the white spot I would rate them a C8-8.5. I do not know what it is and have not attempted to remove the stain. The tunic is tagged and the pants, as with all OKINOWA tagged uniforms I have ever seen, are not tagged. When you compare the tunic and trousers you will have no doubt they are a matched set. The hat also has some interesting markings in it and a picture is in the listing. DOG TAGS: Mint and included. BOOTS: As nice a pair of gummy- rubbery boots I have ever seen. They have not shrunk and hardened and you don’t need to soak these in warm water to get them on or off the figure. They are C9+ with “HONG KONG” in a half circle on heal. FIGURE: The figure is in excellent shape and typical of its kind. The figure is stiff, evidences no play wear and has a beautiful face. He has all the characteristics of the most desirable early figures: very red tone in the pelvic area; a clear stamp on the right shoulder blade; unmarked buttocks; limbs marked “R” and “L”; “holes” in shoulder slots; small feet; thicker fulcrums on hands; enhacned contours on the forearms and, most importantly, every rivet is brass. I stated above that the figure’s condition is excellent and is “typical of its kind”. What I mean is that these figures are known to have stress cracks due to age and this figures is no different. The figure has stress cracks in the biceps and forearms as well as the calves and rear of Pelvis. Please look at the photos. Someone obviously glued the left bicep and put a rubber band on the right upper arm. I did not make the repairs and this is exactly the way I got the figure. I have never had a problem with any of the limbs coming apart and the set displays beautifully. Just look at the photos. The only thing rarer than this piece would be a salesman’s sample boxed figure and I have seen a few sell for big money. The difference between a salesman’s boxed figure and this one? You don’t have to mortgage your house to own this piece! It is not exactly cheap but can be purchased for a fraction of a salesman’s sample boxed figure. I reserve the right to end the auction early if sold outside of acution. The buyer must be willing to pay for insured shipping and payment is due within 72 hours of the close of the auction.
